Find Your Way Back
Find your way back to center with this somatic practice designed to help you process your emotions while cultivating inner presence, clarity, and ease.
Last week, I offered this somatic practice to my clients and members the Belonging Movement Community as a way to support them through our collective grief.
Prior to recording the practice, I offered these opening remarks to help orient to our current reality. It was a way to name the political forces impacting our emotional state:
For many of us, today is not "business as usual."
Women, LGBTQ+ folks, Black & Brown people, immigrants, and many others are specifically targeted to have our rights and safety taken away (see Project 2025).
That's chilling.
The election's results will likely last through our lifetime. Human & civil rights are under imminent threat. A national abortion ban is likely. This means that the state will have more control over our bodies than we do.
This is not a time to say to your colleagues, "time to get back to work," as such a statement demonstrates your lack of awareness about the gravity of this situation.
Before taking action, be gentle with yourself. Practice kindness. Engage in dialogue to seek understanding. Actively listen.
Recognize many of us are being re-traumatized. This is why it’s necessary to create spaces to rest your nervous system through centering...again & again.
I’m taking my own advice as I return to the Strozzi Institute this week. There I’ll gain new somatic coaching practices to support my clients put their values into action.
When I return, I’ll be hosting our weekly Politics of Belonging on Thursday, November 21 to help visionary leaders create the conditions for safety & trust.
I will continue to share with you elegant strategies designed to bridge across our many differences with the goal of building spaces of belonging without exclusion.
Belonging is a practice, even in times of despair - especially during times of despair. During that practice, please take as much time as needed to sit with your grief.
Hold your righteous anger, and the horror of this outcome. Know it will wear off, and when it does, please show up for yourself, your loved ones, and each one of us.
